India Commits ₹11,440 Crore to Cut Pulses Import Dependence

India’s pulses self-sufficiency mission targets higher production, better yields and reduced import dependence by 2030-31.

What happened

The government launched its Pulses Self-Sufficiency Mission on 11 October 2025, with ₹11,440 crore allocated for 2025-26 to 2030-31. It targets production of about 350 lakh tonnes and yields of 1,130 kilograms per hectare by 2030-31. NCCF and NAFED are authorised to procure 100% of tur, masur and urad for four years.

Why it matters

The programme links guaranteed procurement and higher minimum support prices with domestic production, aiming to reduce pulses imports and raise farmers’ incomes.
