Rehabilitation Helps Gorakhpur Mechanic Rebuild Work and Family Trust

A three-month rehabilitation programme helped a Gorakhpur mechanic overcome addiction and restart self-employment.

What happened

Imran Khan, a 33-year-old AC mechanic in Gorakhpur, began using substances at 12 and later became dependent on tobacco, alcohol, drugs and cannabis. He entered an integrated rehabilitation centre on 22 October 2019, receiving medical care, counselling, detoxification support and livelihood guidance. After completing three months, he resumed mechanical work and now earns about ₹30,000-₹40,000 monthly.

Why it matters

The case shows how treatment, family support and structured rehabilitation can help restore a person’s livelihood, financial contribution and relationships after addiction.
