Four Countries Meet Basel Leverage Rules; Canada, UK Fall Short

Basel’s first multi-jurisdictional review finds four countries compliant and Canada and the UK largely compliant.

What happened

The Basel Committee assessed leverage-ratio implementation in Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Australia, Japan, Korea and Switzerland were rated compliant, while Canada and the UK were rated largely compliant. The publication completes Basel’s first round of multi-jurisdictional leverage-ratio assessments.

Why it matters

The results show differing levels of alignment with Basel’s leverage-ratio framework across six banking jurisdictions, with Canada and the UK not receiving full compliance ratings.
