Addiction Recovery Helps Gorakhpur Man Rebuild Income Through Auto-Rickshaw

Government-backed treatment helped a Gorakhpur man overcome addiction, resume work and earn about ₹30,000 monthly.

What happened

Amit Kumar, 47, received free addiction treatment, medicines, counselling and follow-up support from a Gorakhpur rehabilitation centre under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. After previously relapsing, he stopped smoking and using drugs, resumed work and began driving an auto-rickshaw. He now earns approximately ₹30,000 a month and contributes more regularly to household expenses.

Why it matters

The coordinated support restored his ability to work, improved household financial stability and helped rebuild family and social ties after addiction disrupted his health and income.
