Coir Entrepreneurs Turn Training And Finance Into Rural Jobs
Two Indian coir entrepreneurs used training and government-backed finance to build businesses and create local employment.
What happened
In Andhra Pradesh, Allam Gauthami used Coir Board training and PMEGP finance to establish Adigo Coir Products, which now reports annual revenue of about ₹35 lakh, profit of ₹10 lakh and six women employees. In Kerala, G. Sabu launched a coir-spinning unit in 2024 with PMEGP support, employing 8–10 local workers, mostly women.
Why it matters
The examples show how training, technical guidance and subsidised finance are converting traditional coir activity into rural enterprises, incomes and women’s employment.
