WhatsApp Opens Calls to Guests Without Accounts, With Host Approval

WhatsApp now lets people without accounts join calls through links, with host approval and browser access.

What happened

WhatsApp has launched guest calling, allowing people without WhatsApp accounts to join free, end-to-end encrypted calls through a browser link. Hosts must approve guests, who wait in a lobby and can be removed. Guests can join one-to-one or group calls of up to 32 people, but only account holders can create links. Calendar integrations for Google and Outlook are planned later this year.

Why it matters

The change removes the need for every participant to use WhatsApp, making its calls easier to use for colleagues, classmates, and tutors while retaining host controls.
