NASA Conducts Low-Altitude Texas Flights to Measure Farm Emissions
NASA will fly low over Texas farmland to measure gases and particles released by animal feeding operations.
What happened
A NASA Dynamic Aviation A200 aircraft will conduct low-altitude research flights near Transit, Texas, from October 22 through November 9. The FarmFlux mission will measure gaseous and particulate emissions from animal feeding operations. NASA describes agricultural emissions as an important but understudied part of Earth’s land and atmosphere systems.
Why it matters
The flights will produce direct measurements of agricultural emissions, addressing a documented gap in understanding how animal feeding operations affect land and atmospheric systems.
