Google expands disaster alerts as AI forecasts floods, cyclones and fires
Google is expanding earthquake alerts and using AI to forecast floods, cyclones and wildfires worldwide.
What happened
Google said its Android Earthquake Alerts System is expanding to more countries and regions. Its flood forecasting technology gives up to seven days’ notice for river floods affecting more than two billion people across 150 countries, while WeatherNext forecasts cyclones up to 15 days ahead. Fire boundary maps are live in 34 countries.
Why it matters
Earlier warnings and trusted crisis information give people more time to prepare, respond and stay safe during natural disasters. Google connected users with crisis information more than 10 million times daily on average in 2025.
