Meta’s AI Glasses Open Milan Museum Art to Blind Visitors
Meta, EssilorLuxottica and Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera launched an AI-glasses pilot for blind and low-vision visitors.
What happened
The “Sensing Art” pilot connects Meta and EssilorLuxottica AI glasses to Brera’s Grande Brera app and its DescriVedendo audio-tour method. At eight selected artworks, visitors can trigger recognition and hear spoken descriptions through open-ear speakers. The glasses also provide Meta AI and Be My Eyes support, following testing with blind and visually impaired participants.
Why it matters
The pilot makes artwork descriptions, orientation and real-time assistance available through one wearable system, addressing an accessibility challenge for more than one million blind or visually impaired people in Italy.
