Android expands earthquake alerts to more than 200 regions
Google is expanding Android earthquake alerts from 98 countries and regions to more than 200 worldwide.
What happened
Google says Android has delivered more than one billion earthquake alerts since the system launched in 2021. Coverage is expanding from 98 countries and regions to more than 200, including Panama and Guatemala. Google is also adding guidance to its “Be Ready” alert, including detected shaking radius, estimated magnitude and safety actions.
Why it matters
Android users in newly supported regions will receive earlier warnings and more practical information during earthquakes, helping them take protective action before or during shaking.
