Biodiversity Authority Distributes ₹1.19 Crore Across 30 State Councils
India’s National Biodiversity Authority has allocated ₹1.19 crore to 29 state councils and one Union Territory council.
What happened
The National Biodiversity Authority distributed ₹1.19 crore under India’s access and benefit-sharing framework to 29 State Biodiversity Boards and one Union Territory board. Allocations were based on official agricultural-area data for the relevant biological resources, including maize, rice, millet and cotton. The money will fund biodiversity documentation, conservation, research, governance, capacity building and community livelihoods.
Why it matters
The funding directs proceeds from commercial use of agricultural biological resources towards conservation, local biodiversity governance and community livelihood improvement. The NBA says agriculture-linked distributions now exceed ₹86 crore.
