India Targets 100GW Nuclear Capacity to Power AI, Data Centres

India plans to expand nuclear power as reliable clean energy for AI, data centres and long-term development.

What happened

Minister Jitendra Singh reaffirmed that India’s nuclear programme is dedicated to peaceful purposes and national development. He said nuclear power will become increasingly important for meeting rising, continuous electricity demand from artificial intelligence and data centres. India has set a target of 100 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2047, alongside a net-zero emissions goal for 2070.

Why it matters

The plan links India’s clean-energy strategy directly to the dependable electricity needs of a more technology-intensive economy, including expanding AI and data-centre infrastructure.
