SEC and Japan’s FSA deepen cooperation on cross-border market oversight

U.S. and Japanese financial regulators held talks on markets, asset management, innovation and supervisory cooperation.

What happened

The SEC and Japan’s Financial Services Agency held their Autumn Financial Regulatory Dialogue in Tokyo on October 19, led by SEC Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda and FSA Vice Minister Toshiyuki Miyoshi. Officials reviewed market developments and regulatory priorities, including private and public markets, asset management, innovation, and cross-border cooperation. The next dialogue is scheduled for Washington in spring 2027.

Why it matters

Closer coordination gives the two regulators a formal channel to address shared financial-sector issues and support investor protection across U.S. and Japanese markets.
