NASA Tests RS-25 Engine for Future Artemis Missions
NASA fired RS-25 engine No. 10001 for 500 seconds during a test supporting future Artemis missions.
What happened
NASA tested developmental RS-25 engine No. 10001 on October 21 at the Fred Haise Test Stand in Mississippi. The engine fired for 500 seconds, or almost eight-and-a-half minutes—the same duration RS-25 engines operate during launches of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket. The test supports future Artemis missions.
Why it matters
The test validates an engine run matching the SLS launch duration, supporting NASA’s preparations for future Artemis missions.
