AI Recreates Lost Paris Studios to Restore Women Sculptors’ Legacies
A new Paris exhibition uses generative AI to reconstruct studios and spotlight 18 overlooked women sculptors.
What happened
Artist Prune Nourry and Google Arts & Culture created the “Visionaries” exhibition at Paris’s Petit Palais, featuring monumental plaster portraits of 18 historical female sculptors. After a year of archival research, the team used generative AI and 3D modelling to recreate their lost studios, including those of Nancy Elizabeth Prophet, Jane Poupelet and Camille Claudel.
Why it matters
The project uses technology to make erased artistic histories visible, giving visitors immersive access to workspaces that survive mainly through letters, journals and photographs.
