India’s EPR system processes 499.60 lakh tonnes, registers 86,043 producers
The environment minister urged government, industry and urban bodies to jointly advance India’s circular economy.
What happened
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav called for coordinated action at a CII conference, backed by clear policies, regulatory reforms and digital compliance. He said 86,043 producers and 4,880 recyclers were registered under extended producer responsibility frameworks as of October 12, 2026. Regulated waste processing had reached approximately 499.60 lakh metric tonnes.
Why it matters
EPR certificate transfers provide financial incentives for recyclers, supporting capacity expansion, technology adoption, recycling activity and employment across the recycling value chain.
