Retailers use open AI models to cut costs and automate operations
European retailers are deploying open AI models, digital twins and physical AI across commerce, discovery, research and warehouses.
What happened
Shopify says a post-trained model for its Sidekick assistant exceeded a leading frontier model on accuracy while cutting serving costs 90% and making responses seven times faster. Zooplus achieved 86% search accuracy in a production-ready prototype. Otto Group is simulating warehouse operations at its largest fulfillment center before physical implementation.
Why it matters
The deployments show measurable gains in retail economics and execution: lower AI costs, faster responses, more accurate product discovery and warehouse changes tested digitally before deployment.
