RBI Absorbs ₹2.29 Lakh Crore From Banks In One Day
The RBI absorbed ₹2.29 lakh crore through its facilities on September 21, while total net absorption reached ₹4.92 lakh crore.
What happened
On September 21, the RBI recorded net liquidity absorption of ₹2,28,546 crore from same-day operations. Banks placed ₹1,57,750 crore under the Standing Deposit Facility, while ₹4,262 crore used the Marginal Standing Facility. Including outstanding operations, absorption stood at ₹4,91,790 crore.
Why it matters
The figures show substantial liquidity being placed with or absorbed by the RBI rather than remaining in the banking system. For money-market participants, this shifts the day’s funding balance toward central-bank absorption, with overnight transactions averaging 5.12%.
