BRICS Forum Puts India-Russia Trade Barriers on Parliamentary Agenda
India will host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum on October 26-27, with trade, security and parliamentary cooperation on the agenda.
What happened
India will host the two-day 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at Parliament House from October 26. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin discussed stronger parliamentary ties, counterterrorism and India’s permanent membership of the UN Security Council. Volodin also called for joint ventures and fewer barriers to bilateral trade and investment.
Why it matters
The forum creates a formal platform for India and Russia to discuss trade and investment barriers, alongside cooperation in energy, industry, agriculture and security.
