Government Launches National Campaign Connecting Young People With Seniors

India has launched a national campaign to strengthen intergenerational relationships and support senior citizens through community participation.

What happened

Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar launched the Vayo Samman National Campaign under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana. The initiative includes a handbook, volunteer programme and partnerships with two organisations for yoga, meditation, wellness and community activities. Citizens aged 18 and above can register as Vayo Saathi volunteers through the SCW Inclusion Portal or Jeevan App.

Why it matters

The campaign addresses loneliness, limited awareness of welfare schemes and cyber-fraud vulnerability among seniors by linking them with younger citizens, institutions and community networks.
