India Finance Minister to Attend AIIB Meeting During Qatar Visit
Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Qatar and attend the AIIB’s annual governors’ meeting in Doha from September 27 to 29, 2026.
What happened
Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will lead a Finance Ministry delegation on an official Qatar visit from September 27 to 29, 2026. She will attend the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s 11th annual Board of Governors meeting in Doha on September 28 as India’s AIIB governor. India is the bank’s second-largest shareholder. Sitharaman is also scheduled for bilateral meetings with the AIIB president and counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal. She is expected to meet Qatar’s leadership and hold discussions with Qatari business leaders and investors.
Why it matters
The visit places India’s finance minister in discussions involving a major multilateral infrastructure bank, partner governments, and Qatari investors. AIIB focuses on infrastructure, connectivity and sustainable economic development across Asia.
