India’s 2026 Tarang Shakti Exercise Brings Seven Foreign Air Forces Together
India has begun the operational phase of its 2026 multilateral air exercise, involving seven partner countries and multiple aircraft types.
What happened
The Indian Air Force began the operational phase of Exercise Tarang Shakti-2026 at Jodhpur Air Force Station after its opening ceremony. The multilateral exercise runs from 26 September to 12 October 2026 under the theme “Strength in Partnership.” Australia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are participating. Foreign aircraft include the F-35 Lightning II, Rafale, F-16, A400M, MRTT, C-130, C-130J and KC-30A. The exercise covers combat missions, air transport, aerial refuelling, joint training, information exchange and operational coordination. Other countries are participating as observers.
Why it matters
The exercise gives participating air forces a structured setting to operate Indian and foreign combat aircraft and support assets together. It also creates opportunities to share operational knowledge, improve interoperability and understand aerospace safety procedures and capabilities.
