Google opens skilled-trade paths for 25,000 veterans and families
Google.org is funding veteran groups to provide training, coaching, and job placements for 25,000 people entering U.S. skilled trades.
What happened
Google is launching a commitment to help 25,000 U.S. veterans and military family members build careers in skilled trades. Google.org will fund and support Hiring Our Heroes, Student Veterans of America, and the Home Builders Institute. Together, the organisations will offer hands-on pre-apprenticeships, career coaching, and direct job placements. Target roles include master electrician, lead pipefitter, and project manager. Google says hundreds of thousands of skilled-trade positions are currently open across the U.S. The initiative builds on earlier support for veteran training, Google Career Certificates, AI courses, and AI-powered learning tools developed with trade organisations.
Why it matters
The programme connects veterans and military families with training and employment in roles Google describes as offering long-term financial stability. It also addresses the large number of open skilled-trade positions in the U.S.
