AI Brings Nearly 200 Cultural Artifacts Into Interactive Learning
Google Arts & Culture Lab launched two interactive experiences combining AI-powered artifact exploration with an art memory game.
What happened
Google Arts & Culture Lab launched The Talking Museum and Museum Memory through its artist residency programme. The Talking Museum, created by artist-in-residence Lex Fefegha, lets users explore more than 190 3D cultural artifacts from partner institutions. Users can browse objects by size, material or era, rotate and zoom them, hear Gemini-powered audio commentary, and ask questions about each artifact. Museum Memory, created by game designer Carol Mertz and developer Mary McKenzie, places users in a virtual gallery, scrambles paintings after an observation period, and asks them to restore the original exhibition layout.
Why it matters
The launch gives users a more interactive way to study cultural artifacts, combining AI-guided explanations with visual exploration. Museum Memory adds a game-based format for learning about art while testing observation and recall skills.
