U.S. IPO proceeds jump nearly 400% in first half

SEC data show U.S. IPOs rose 16% and proceeds nearly 400% year-on-year in first-half 2026.

What happened

The SEC’s Division of Economic and Risk Analysis published updated U.S. capital-market statistics on September 23, 2026. In the first half of 2026, companies completed 208 IPOs and raised more than $137 billion, compared with 180 IPOs and over $27 billion in the same period of 2025. Follow-on registered offerings also increased: 557 offerings raised more than $111 billion, versus 505 offerings raising nearly $84 billion a year earlier. DERA said its interactive charts, pie charts and heat maps allow the public, market participants and policymakers to examine the data.

Why it matters

Companies raised substantially more equity capital through both IPOs and follow-on offerings. The SEC described the data as evidence of strengthening U.S. capital formation and said the information supports market analysis and oversight.
