India Funds 210 Nanomedicine Projects as Personalised Care Advances
The government is backing 210 nanomedicine projects as India develops targeted, preventive and personalised healthcare technologies.
What happened
At the World Congress on Nanomedicine 2026 in New Delhi, Union minister Jitendra Singh said nanomedicine could advance preventive and personalised healthcare. More than 2,000 scientists and researchers are attending the event. The Department of Biotechnology is providing ₹174 crore for 210 research and development projects covering targeted drug delivery, cancer treatments, infectious diseases, vaccines, diagnostics, imaging, regenerative medicine, wound healing and nanotoxicology. Government support also extends to startups, infrastructure, technology development and regulatory facilitation. India has established nanopharmaceutical guidelines jointly developed by the DBT, ICMR and CDSCO for assessing safety, quality and effectiveness.
Why it matters
The funding gives Indian researchers and startups support across the nanomedicine pipeline, from laboratory research to product development. The regulatory framework provides a basis for evaluating nanopharmaceutical safety, quality and effectiveness.
