Google.org funds broader AI training for US educators through Digital Promise
Google.org is giving Digital Promise $4 million to expand free practical AI training for US teachers and faculty.
What happened
Google.org announced the $4 million commitment at the United Nations General Assembly in New York to support Digital Promise, a nonprofit focused on expanding learning opportunities. The funding will help more teachers, schools and higher education institutions access practical AI professional development. Google earlier announced plans to offer free training to all 6 million K-12 teachers and higher education faculty in the US, in partnership with ISTE. The self-paced programme covers foundational AI skills, instructional judgment and uses such as lesson planning and productivity. Educators can earn recognised digital badges. Digital Promise will also work with state agencies, districts and community college systems, and publish an open guide on effective AI adoption.
Why it matters
The funding extends AI training beyond individual educators to school systems and community colleges. It also supports research and a free public guide, giving higher education institutions practical resources for using AI in teaching and daily work.
