Improper Aluminum 2219 Processing Raises Defect and Corrosion Risks
A technical bulletin warns that flawed casting and forging of aluminum alloy 2219 can increase corrosion susceptibility.
What happened
Technical Bulletin 26-07 warns that improper casting and forging during aluminum alloy 2219 manufacturing can create microstructural defects. Those defects can produce a suboptimal response to anodic surface treatments and increase the material’s susceptibility to corrosion.
Why it matters
Manufacturers using aluminum alloy 2219 face material-performance and corrosion risks when casting or forging processes create these microstructural defects.
