India launches ₹767 crore Coastal Mission across nine states, four UTs

India has issued implementation guidelines for a ₹767 crore coastal mission running through 2030-31.

What happened

Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav released guidelines for National Coastal Mission 2.0. The central-sector scheme will operate through 2030-31 across nine coastal states and four Union territories, with an approved outlay of ₹767 crore. It covers coastal risk assessment, ecosystem restoration, pollution management, biodiversity protection, sustainable tourism, spatial planning, research and capacity building.

Why it matters

The framework is designed to streamline implementation, clarify institutional responsibilities and promote ease of doing business in coastal areas while strengthening coordination between central and state governments.
