Vice President Tells Defence Estate Officers to Protect 18 Lakh Acres
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan urged probationers to manage defence land with integrity, technology and public accountability.
What happened
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed 2025-batch Indian Defence Estates Service probationers, stressing their responsibility for managing nearly 18 lakh acres of defence land. He highlighted e-Chhawani and tools including AI, GIS, drones and satellite imagery. “Technology should strengthen accountability, not replace it,” he said, urging officers to protect assets and support operational readiness.
Why it matters
The service manages a significant national land portfolio while supporting civilian facilities and defence infrastructure. Better digital tools could improve accuracy and transparency, but officials remain accountable for decisions.
