Skilled trades alliance adds 14 partners amid 1.7 million annual openings

The Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades added 14 partners as its report highlighted a widening national training gap.

What happened

The Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades welcomed 14 new partners to expand apprenticeships, modernise training and improve access to skilled-trades careers across the United States. Its first workforce report, produced with the Burning Glass Institute and Jobs for the Future, estimates that industry growth and retirements will create 1.7 million skilled-trades openings annually. Training pathways currently prepare only 55 workers for every 100 needed.

Why it matters

The skilled-trades pipeline is producing only 55% of the workers needed, leaving national training capacity materially below projected demand.
