SEC Charges Pair After $8.7 Million Fund Fraud Targeted Veterans

The SEC charged two men over an alleged investment fraud that raised more than $8.7 million from 35 investors.

What happened

The SEC accused former naval officer Christopher Dinelli and Jacob Frankel of misleading investors through Beyond Alpha Ventures and Beyond Equity. The complaint alleges they promoted returns of up to 153% despite losses, diverted pre-IPO investment money into failed options trades, and misappropriated more than $1.34 million combined. Both face civil fraud charges.

Why it matters

Investors allegedly lost money after funds were redirected and misrepresented, while the case highlights the financial risks of relying on personal networks and private-market claims.
