NASA Opens 2027 Student Challenge for Reliable Lunar Communications
NASA is inviting college and university students to develop ideas for reliable communications supporting sustained lunar exploration.
What happened
NASA has opened its 2027 Human Lander Challenge to college and university students. The challenge focuses on solving a critical requirement for sustained lunar exploration: reliable communications. NASA says communications systems will be as important as spacecraft as it prepares for long-term human presence on the Moon through its Artemis and Moon Base programmes.
Why it matters
Reliable communications are a core requirement for NASA’s planned long-term human presence on the Moon, alongside the spacecraft needed to reach it.
