SEC Charges WhatsApp Investment Schemes Over Alleged $15 Million Fraud
The SEC charged four entities over online investment scams that allegedly defrauded hundreds of retail investors of more than $15 million.
What happened
The SEC filed two complaints accusing Cryptoaiml Ltd., Cryptoaiml Capital Foundation, TSAI Pro Ltd., and TSAI Capital Foundation of falsely claiming SEC compliance and promising outsized returns. The alleged schemes used WhatsApp, websites, and Facebook to solicit crypto deposits and AI-trading investments. The SEC says Cryptoaiml misappropriated more than $12.5 million and TSAI more than $2.8 million.
Why it matters
Investors were allegedly directed to fake platforms, shown fictitious profits, and charged fraudulent fees when they sought withdrawals. The cases underscore the financial risk of unverified online investment offers.
