Rural India Holds Special Gram Sabhas to Review Sanitation Efforts

Special village assemblies across rural India reviewed sanitation, waste management and local implementation under Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.

What happened

On 2 October 2026, Water Resources Minister C. R. Patil led a special Gram Sabha in Majigam village, Gujarat, marking Swachh Bharat Day. Discussions covered Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, four-way waste segregation, bulk waste generators and the annual digital Swachh Seva Assessment. Officials held similar assemblies across several states and Union territories.

Why it matters

The assemblies give village councils and rural communities a formal platform to review sanitation performance, identify gaps and integrate required work into local development plans.
