Corteva Loses Pesticide Loyalty Program as Farmers Gain Cheaper Options
Corteva will dismantle its pesticide loyalty program under a settlement designed to improve access to lower-cost generic products.
What happened
The FTC and 12 states reached a settlement with Corteva over allegations that its post-patent loyalty program restricted distributors from selling cheaper generic pesticides. For 10 years, Corteva cannot tie distributor benefits to buying more than 50% of an active ingredient from Corteva or restrict generic purchases. Corteva must also pay states $35 million.
Why it matters
Farmers should gain greater access to generic crop-protection products, while Corteva faces limits on distributor incentives that allegedly kept pesticide prices elevated.
