India Deploys 40 Supercomputers With 68 Petaflops Under National Mission

India’s National Supercomputing Mission has deployed 40 locally built systems delivering 68 petaflops of combined computing capacity.

What happened

By September 2026, the National Supercomputing Mission had deployed 40 supercomputers across India, with combined capacity of 68 petaflops, including 13 systems exceeding one petaflop. The mission, launched in 2015 with an outlay of about ₹4,500 crore, has also developed indigenous servers, software, cooling and networking technologies. Its systems support weather forecasting, climate modelling, healthcare, agriculture and scientific research.

Why it matters

The infrastructure expands domestic access to high-performance computing for researchers and institutions, while reducing reliance on imported technology and supporting applications across climate, health, agriculture and engineering.
