Apple TV wins record 29 Emmys as Widow’s Bay dominates freshman comedy

Apple TV led the 78th Primetime Emmys with 29 wins, while Widow’s Bay became television’s most decorated freshman comedy.

What happened

Apple TV recorded its strongest Emmy performance, winning 29 awards across six programmes and becoming the year’s most-awarded network. Widow’s Bay won Outstanding Comedy Series and 14 awards overall, the highest total for a freshman comedy and the most comedy wins in one season. Hiro Murai also became the first Asian winner for comedy directing.

Why it matters

The result gives Apple TV the industry’s top Emmy performance in its seventh season and makes it the first streaming service with back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series wins.
