WTO, UNECLAC Report Urges Services Exports, Skills and Investment Coordination
A new WTO and UNECLAC report outlines how developing economies can expand services exports through coordinated policy strategies.
What happened
The WTO Secretariat and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean launched a report on 17 September examining services export promotion in developing economies. Drawing on case studies, it says countries should align export promotion with skills upgrading and investment attraction, while adapting mechanisms traditionally designed for goods trade.
Why it matters
Developing economies may improve their ability to capture growing services-trade opportunities by linking export promotion with workforce skills and investment policies.
