WTO Members Start Plastics Trade Talks Ahead of MC15

WTO members began technical discussions on plastics pollution and sustainable plastics trade ahead of the next ministerial conference.

What happened

Participants in the Dialogue on Plastics Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade held their first substantive technical discussions on 1 October 2026. The work covered circular solutions, waste-management technologies, single-use plastics and trade-related plastics measures. The talks build on outcomes from the WTO’s March 2026 14th Ministerial Conference and earlier technical work.

Why it matters

Plastics trade measures and single-use plastics are now part of focused WTO discussions, but the source confirms no new rules, obligations or commercial impacts.
