Djibouti Faces Overlapping Emergencies as Yemen Refugees Keep Arriving
The IOM says Djibouti is managing arrivals from Yemen while migrants continue travelling in the opposite direction.
What happened
Djibouti is facing what the UN migration agency calls “overlapping emergencies.” Refugees fleeing the conflict in Yemen are arriving on Djibouti’s shores, even as migrants continue travelling from Djibouti in the opposite direction. The IOM issued the warning on Tuesday, highlighting simultaneous refugee arrivals and migrant departures involving the country.
Why it matters
Djibouti must manage two concurrent migration movements: receiving people escaping Yemen’s conflict while migrants continue leaving through the country.
