India, Argentina Armies Complete Joint Climbs of Two Himalayan Peaks

Indian and Argentine soldiers jointly climbed two Himalayan peaks, strengthening military cooperation through a third successful mountaineering expedition.

What happened

A 35-member team—25 Indian Army personnel and 10 Argentine soldiers—completed climbs of Mount Abi Gamin, at 7,355 metres, on September 17 and Mount Kamet, at 7,756 metres, on September 21, 2026. Led by Lieutenant Colonel Chirag Chatterjee, the expedition was the armies’ third joint mountaineering mission and was conducted in Uttarakhand’s challenging high-altitude terrain.

Why it matters

The expedition gave both armies experience operating together in extreme high-altitude conditions while strengthening professional cooperation, interoperability, mutual trust and camaraderie.
