Artist’s Giant Spider Turns Frieze Sculpture Into Multiplayer Game
Theo Triantafyllidis won the 2026 Frieze Artist Award for a climbable sculpture linked to a shared digital game.
What happened
Athens-based artist Theo Triantafyllidis created “Feral Metaverse (Spider),” a climbable sculpture and live multiplayer game for Frieze London. Visitors help one another climb the structure before entering a shared digital environment. The project team used Google’s Gemini to develop sketches, characters, backdrops and 3D renders. The work will be shown from October 14–18.
Why it matters
The project connects physical installation art with collaborative digital play, requiring visitors to exchange advice, learn together and cooperate across both environments.
